Ranch of Dreams

the Heartwarming Story of America's Most Unusual Animal Sanctuary
Nov 18, 2017
I love this book. Read the amazing story of how Amory and his companions saved 560 wild donkeys from being exterminated. Those donkeys lived at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the Park Board wanted to have them killed off. Amory and his friends negotiated a rescue program, hired a helicopter and air lifted one-by-one 560 donkeys up from the 2,000m depth of the Canyon. Those donkeys were taken to the Ranch of Dreams and offered as pets for adoption. In this book Amory tells how cruelly some ranchers in the USA with airplanes drive to exhaustion groups of wild horses, corral them and sell them for pet food meat with the connivance of local authorities. Wildlife is being destroyed by humans, and if we don't stop it, all that reamains from the Earth will be waste dumps, the work of "humans." I love critters in the city; I have squirrel friends (many of them had been killed on the order of animal haters), and some raccoon friends who come up to me at night when they see me; there were two mothers so far who brought to me their young kits too, and I gave them oatmeal cookies and dry cat food. But a few animal haters here in Vancouver try to prevent me from helping these lovely, hungry little bears. Just today one dog walker who lives nearby noticed that I threw a few cookies to a spot, and when I was gone, went there and removed the cookies. I had more with me and I put out new ones a bit later. These things repeat - the same happened with squirrels whom I fed with peanuts at a tree in the community garden: I put out the peanuts and one "gardener" regularly picked them up and removed them, and then I went back and put out new ones every time. If these people are this selfish and hate animals, can one imagine that they like each other? OK, so, this book of Amory is worth to read for anyone who loves wild life, and who has not only his dog to love and walk 3 times a day. I spend money and make daily trips to meet and feed my animal friends. Raccoons don't attack people, they are lovely friends, come close to me, some take cookies from my hands, same as do some squirrels. Read this book.
