Dang. This was the first fumble in the series. The previous one, The Overlook, was great. This one felt like some of my home repair projects: some duct tape and paint at the end to make it complete. Without spoiling the book for new readers, there is a component involving Hong Kong that seems contrived only to eliminate a recurring character and deepen the fatherhood/vulnerability angle. Nobody hits the ball every time and hopefully the next one will be back to form.
