As Ariel's inspiration to write this book came from a promise to a young writer who tragically died before she had the chance to mentor her, for that reason alone, this book has particular relevance for me. Writing is usually a very solitary experience - so new writers in particular, really need a connection to good mentors if they ever expect to be heard or earn a living at writing. This book can serve as one of those great writing mentors. Even an experienced writer can glean a lot from this book, with all of its attention to newer forms of publishing. It reads like a good friend who is giving you all of the best that they have, culminating from a near-lifetime of work experience in your field of interest. This book is filled with inside information that any writer can use to inspire, motivate and challenge. It's also entertaining, filled with great humor and advice that only someone who understands what it really is to be a writer would ever know about. She scatters little writing exercises throughout which, when completed, can provide a great release and fun way to really get your creative juices flowing. Above all, this book points to publishing and promotion strategies that some writers may either have not known about, considered or tried - which all may lead to other opportunities. In that way, it is invaluable - as it really covers the new landscape of publishing for writers.
