For this film, Ralph Fiennes studied the Russian language, as this film is largely in Russian with some conversations in German (no English). It is an adaptation of a 1850's play by Ivan Turgenev ("A Month in the Country." The subject seems to be about love. Unrequited love, unspoken love if it is forbidden, love across age differences, etc. Humor comes in when the audience knows that the characters have wrong ideas about who loves whom. I probably liked this film more than the critics. It received an 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Action fans should look elsewhere for their entertainment.
