With this novel about the de Witt family, Kate Williams has added another dimension to the growing genre of fiction relating to the upheavals in society caused by World War I .Celia, the youngest member of the family, is naive to the point of exasperation for the 21st century reader but a credible character for all that in a world turned upside down by the horrors of war.The events are real enough and their impacts far reaching.Well researched and convincing, this is the first in a trilogy. I'm looking forward to the ensuing volumes.
