Parallels have been made about this Ron Howard film and the iconic John Ford Western with John Wayne, "The Searchers". I suppose that could be the case in ANY film where a child is abducted, and a parent or relative goes after them. I ignored that criticism, or observation, or what have you, and judged the movie simply for what it was. And it was decent. Not great, but not bad. I admire both leads, Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones, very much. They alone were enough to carry the film for me. The supernatural mumbo-jumbo was a bit much, and it was kinda predictable, but altogether, an enjoyable modern Western.
