At 65 years old, Nan doesn't care what people think. If her neighbours are away, why shouldn't she skinny-dip in their swimming pools? But when she discovers that the money she thought would last forever is running out and she may lose her beloved house on the bluff in Nantucket, she knows she has to make drastic changes. As Nan fills her house with people--a recently divorced father of two girls, a single mother of a truculent teen-- she finds her family extending. Her son comes home, and then an unexpected visitor throws all their lives upside down.

I chose this book as a light vacation read that I could pick up and put down at whim. Instead I found myself glued to the page, wanting to know what experiences were in store for the families who had joined Nan Powell at her Nantucket boarding house.

Nan is eccentric in an amusing way: skinny dipping in a neighbour’s pool and generally confounding her neighbours with her behaviour. She is surprised to learn that, due to financial woes, she may lose her home. Since Windermere is a large older home, Nan decides to open it to paying guests. The people who join Nan in her home are as interesting as Nan is eccentric.

This was a pleasant read. I wasn't really surprised in the end but it turned out to be happy. I pretty much love all of Jane Green's books.

An okay read, nothing truly memorable, but pleasant enough, especially the first half. What I fail to understand is why reviewers so often try to summarize plot. A summary is already available (and usually more complete) in the book catalog description. What other readers want is candid evaluation, not summary!
