This novel introduces a new sergeant to DI Fleming's police force who could be trouble as well as more family problems with teenage daughter. That's one storyline. The other storyline is the murder of the three members of a lifesaving crew coming in from a rescue on the sea. Templeton provides enough detail on the background of several suspects that range from jealous wife, drug dealer, crazed teen, incompetent captain, revengeful stepson, etc. By the time their alibis have been checked out by the police and a few other murders have been committed Fleming finally points out the culprit - of, course, it is the last person you would have considered. I do like the Fleming and Tam McNab duo as detectives.
A Scottish village deals with the tragedy of the wreck of a small life-saving vessel and the resulting death of its three crew members. It becomes more difficult for the community when the police find that lights were used on the cliffs to misdirect the boat onto dangerous rocks during a hazardous mission.
Detective Inspector Marjory Fleming leads the case. She is an interesting and strong female character with a deep love for the people she protects.
Lots of atmosphere and many suspects add to the story and keep you interested until the end.
a good read well paced, good characters and a surprise ending
