This movie did not age well. I laughed only once. One of the worst I have ever seen.

At a 2-hour-40-minute running time - 1963's "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" was (at times) a difficult comedy to hold one's full attention from start to finish.

But, on the other hand - This $9.5 million production certainly did contain plenty of wild situations, fantastic stunts, and, of course, its all-star cast to help buffer any boredom that may set in while one is viewing this one-of-a-kind picture.

Yes. You really have to see "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" for yourself to believe it (and endure it).

Rated 10/10. An absolute classic! Saw this when I was younger. It's still very funny!

Lots of cameos.

Really enjoyed this movie.

"With this all-star Cinerama epic, producer/director Stanley Kramer vowed to make "the comedy that would end all comedies." The story begins during a massive traffic jam, caused by reckless driver Smiler Grogan (Jimmy Durante), who, before (literally) kicking the bucket, cryptically tells the assembled drivers that he's buried a fortune in stolen loot, "under the Big W." The various motorists setting out on a mad scramble include a dentist (Sid Caesar) and his wife (Edie Adams); a henpecked husband (Milton Berle) accompanied by his mother-in-law (Ethel Merman) and his beatnik brother-in-law (Dick Shawn); a pair of comedy writers (Buddy Hackett and Mickey Rooney); and a variety of assorted nuts including a slow-wit (Jonathan Winters), a wheeler-dealer (Phil Silvers), and a pair of covetous cabdrivers (Peter Falk and Eddie "Rochester" Anderson). Monitoring every move that the fortune hunters make is a scrupulously honest police detective (Spencer Tracy). Virtually every lead, supporting, and bit part in the picture is filled by a well-known comic actor: the laughspinning lineup also includes Carl Reiner, Terry-Thomas, Arnold Stang, Buster Keaton, Jack Benny, Jerry Lewis, and The Three Stooges, who get one of the picture's biggest laughs by standing stock still and uttering not a word. Two prominent comedians are conspicuous by their absence: Groucho Marx refused to appear when Kramer couldn't meet his price, while Stan Laurel declined because he felt he was too old-looking to be funny. Available for years in its 154-minute general release version, the film was restored to its roadshow length of 175 minutes on home video; the search goes on for a missing Buster Keaton routine, reportedly excised on the eve of the picture's premiere." ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Essentially a 154-minute car chase, Stanley Kramer’s high-speed comedy is notable for two things: it’s Oscar-winning special effects and a dream cast of big name comics and character actors, many of whom were content to simply make a brief onscreen cameo. Made before the era of CGI effects, the intricate highway sequences and aerial acrobatics are still a wonder to behold with cars, trucks, and taxis soaring over curbs or spinning doughnuts along mountain roads while an airplane flies through a billboard before looping under a hangar—and it’s all presented in widescreen “Super Panavision” (Cinerama’s cheaper cousin). Of course it’s just fluff and silliness, like a big-budget retro version of television’s "Amazing Race", but that cast makes it all worthwhile. Similar undertakings have been tried since, but as a grand old comedy ensemble piece "Mad World" still sets the standard.

Yes, it's an all star cast but I just wasn't into it.

Hilarious! This movie will have the whole family keeled over in laughter! Jonathan Winters, Ethel Merman, Don Knotts, Mickey Rooney, and Spencer Tracey are only a few of the talented actors that help make this movie fun. The plot is entertaining and the car chase, plane chase scenes will certainly have the audience engaged.

We may never see a picture like "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" again. It has so many stars in the movie, who actually make major contributions. The script is funny and the film is loaded with the best comics of that time. It is still true from recent events, if people hear their is a fortune to be found, they will drop everything to go find it. Great fun for the entire family!

No idea what the movie is like since I have had it on hold for 8 months without getting to view it. For some reason there isn't even one copy.
