Note - this movie is not entertainment nor "Hollywood".
It is very well done protraying the reality of modern war. It seems like a documentary if you didn't know better.

One of those best movies about true war.

The quagmire of Afghanistan and how it affects the soldiers and families examined with deep precision by this very compelling film. Civilian deaths, soldiers placed between savage ambush and the politicians "rules of engagement," and deteriorating family lives at home. Many of these issues of Denmark will strike a chord in the US. An excellent and smart film.

Nominated for the best Foreign Language Film for the 2016 Oscars but lost to a very original "Son of Saul" from Hungary. As the writer commented in the special features, he aimed to explore the sentiment of a Danish officer who was going on his third tour to Afghanistan, and said he wasn’t afraid of being killed down there — he was afraid of being prosecuted when he got back home. The message was right on though pace could be picked up for a more gripping drama in mho. Transcript of the interview at:

Boring movie made even more so by the lack of any background music. Also, the soldiers use so many anagrams it's difficult to understand what they're talking about. After 30 minutes I began fast forwarding thru chunks to see if anything was actually going to happen - it never did.

If Danish soldiers, who put their lives one the line, are prosecuted for violations of the military
criminal code, on conjecture, THEN we'll be somewhere, we do not want to be.
===
But although we have sympathy for the defendant, who appears to be a competent soldier and leader and although we must provide Danish soldiers room for maneuverability in extreme circumstances. No one is above the law. Otherwise, a judicial system is rendered superfluous. If we in a case like this let such a serious violation of humanitarian rights slide, we will end somewhere, where we do not want to be.

-What the hell was I supposed to do?
-Huh? It's not about what you were supposed to do, but what you do right now.
