A Fine Romance begins with Bergen's charming first husband, French director Louis Malle, whose huge appetite for life broadened her horizons and whose occasional darkness never diminished their love for each other. But her real romance begins when she discovers overpowering love for her daughter after years of ambivalence about motherhood. As Chloe grows up, Bergen finds her comic genius in the biggest TV role of the 80s, Murphy Brown , and makes unwanted headlines when Dan Quayle pulls her into the 1992 presidential campaign.

I found it a bit indulgent, but I was very moved by her brief chapter on her mother's death.

Very good read. Reading about her husband's is very interesting. Taking care of a loved one in pain is hard. I really liked how she wrote about.

A heartfelt tribute to Candice Bergen's two husbands: director Louis Malle and philanthropist Marshall Rose. Also goes into detail about the Dan Quayle controversy - her viewpoint as the actress playing the role of the single mother is itself worth reading, It's not that common to see an actor go from the movies to TV to Broadway, in that order ... but Bergen seems to have done that quite well.

Candice Bergen is at her self deprecating best in this her follow up memoir to the extraordinary Knock Wood. Though I started to trail off a bit as she begins the dating process, and eventual marriage , with the second love of her life, the book regained my interest at the conclusion. She credits someone for putting this book together after a 4 year process and if I have any criticism, it's that I felt she started to repeat herself somewhat. Nonetheless, she's an insightful and brutally honest writer in her recollections and observations. An entertaining read.

I think Candace really does have a lot of Murphy Brown in her.
She's a wonderful writer and her memoir was interesting, informative and fun to read, even tho I couldn't relate to hardly a thing in her life. She has a gift within this book: she can be hilariously funny and make you laugh out loud at 3 o'clock in the morning. :)

A great read. Very informative and funny. Candace is a good writer. Was surprised to hear her life was so sad and disappointing throughout but funny was always weaved through it. Loved reading about her place in France with her first husband Louis. I related with her with the tragic health of her husband. I enjoyed the book so much will read the first book Knock on Wood.

Candid memoir about the actress's life after meeting and marrying film director Louis Malle.
