Much funnier than the similar British "Saving Grace" and also with a more complex plotline. Bernadette Lafont creates a bigoted, rather unlikeable elderly woman who's angrily facing a retirement in poverty (there's a sad scene as she fights and scavenges for discarded vegetables at the local market). She mourns her dead husband and the loss of their restaurant. Her life takes a dramatic change when she figures out the local kids are drug-dealing and decides to ask the neighboring pot dealer for a slice of the action. Toss in a lucky cake-baking mistake and Chez Paulette suddenly becomes a big hit, beloved by the stoners. However, all is not smooth sailing: her best friends wonder about her new activities; her grandson softens her heart; the top drug lord is a karaoke-singing, slutty Russian who thinks young kids can be a brand-new market; and her son-in-law just happens to be a drug crimes detective (Jean-Baptiste Anoumon does an excellent job as the African-Frenchman cheerfully and intelligently managing his way through a society that doesn't quite accept him). Note: In French with English subtitles. I removed one star because ultimately, it promotes drugs/violent crime.

I thought it was pretty funny.
I guess the best way to describe this would be as a French Breaking Bad comedy.
It's not a parody of Breaking Bad, but it does sort of have some parallels as far as plot, but it's a comedy.

It is a very funny movie, but with no English subtitles! I was actually quite surprised about that because in the theatre it had subtitles.

Le film est basé sur une histoire vraie. Très drôle.

Other: Part of the plot: drug use is portrayed as normal. Racism galore, including a grandmother abusing her own grandson and putting cockroaches in a Chinese restaurant to ruin their business.
