I am to read this book now, and I think it was useful in Justin winning. As for the drastic anti-constitutional and anti-democratic changes that Harper brought on in his last 2 yrs of rule, I think all of it is not exclusively his own personal agenda - it's certainly in the Conservative agenda, and Harper accelerated it, started its radical part a bit too early for the times. I would not trust the Conservatives since Harper, who has shown us their teeth. Harper said: "our prayers have been answered" (when winning his majority). They pray for a Dictatorship here and and they certainly want to re-write the Constitution to remove human rights in general. I repeat: I think all this is part of the Conservative agenda, no matter what they say now that they are re-grouping for a new comeback. But the main problem I see is that One Third of Canada's population voted for Harper even after he did his anti-Constitutional moves, and he even appealed at the Supreme Court against our Constitutional rights. ONE THIRD of our population seems to be anti-democratic, they always vote for the Conservatives, that's our MAIN PROBLEM. But "all roads lead to Rome" and so the other problem we have is over- population and various cultural conflicts, which will lead to social crisis and eventually, to Dictatorship. And our ultimate problem is Human Nature, which is like a lone wild animal (my respects to the "human" few) - they defend territory madly, and unless Human Nature is changed (genetically) there never will be peace on earth. What about the solution? Read Arthur Koestler's book "The Ghost In The Machine" which he wrote on behalf of the United Nation's "Department Of Behavioral Control" (1967), and read "Agenda 21" of the United Nations. By the next century the world's pop will be largely reduced, and relocated into reserved areas, which they will not be allowed to leave. And city life will be finished, and the present cities will be given back to Nature. Read also Dr. John Coleman's book "The Conspirators' Hierarchy" (1997) for these plans of the rather near future. There will be no individual rights, no private property, no family units and no nation states. The Great Disruption will come in the 21th Century and a new Civilization and a genetically improved, better human race is to replace us, the present aggressive wild animals we are. For the time being it's a manipulated Democracy. Whatever you vote, the planned future will come - it must come, else we destroy the Earth and ourselves. In the 1967 "Expo" World Fair in Montreal there was a movie in the Czech Pavilion - the public was allowed to vote at some points of a certain Mr. Novak's adventures, i.e. how the story should continue. No matter how the public voted, the final outcome was the same. This is our Democracy too. Just the Conservative agenda is too early and not nice, that's all.
There is an election under way. This is a good time to read this book.
The author raises many serious concerns about the Harper approach to government. We need to see if any other contenders will commit to undoing the changes Harper has wrought.
This is an important book, I just wish that a better writer had written it, or a stronger editor had gone over it. The subject matter jumps about. There is a lack of organization and structure to the presentation that gets annoying. Readers should persist and struggle through through those problems.
The tactics Harper has been using to silence the opposition from speaking or voting sounds so much like what Vladimir Putin does in Russia (minus the assassinations, of course). This is a must read.
Wow, scary to learn what the people in power manage to pull off when no one is watching. Definitely a good thing to read before the next election.
