Loved this book. A real page turner and very well researched. Learned a lot about the immigrant experience and Ice Cream.

Solid plot, flawed protagonist, Italian-Jewish take on the frenzy of the immigration movement to New York and life at the beginning of the last century. Much more than what it appears to be. Gilman is very close to the ground with believability. Lillian is endearing and quite full of it. Thoroughly enjoyed!

The story as it unfolds is very good and well told, but for the constant affected "darlings" thrown in by the author. The text would be so much stronger with that omitted. It is a contrivance that serves to jar one from the emotion of the story and to distract from the otherwise strong writing.

Funny and heartbreaking. It looks like a fluffy "women's" book but is much deeper than that.

I really enjoyed this book.

A more substantial book than the cover or title would indicate. This is a little piece of American history as seen through the life experience of a Russian immigrant.

I didn't really care for this book though I did finish it. In parts, I felt it drifted a bit. It was disappointing.
