The author is brillant. But this is a very difficult read ( almost unreadable) unless you are determined to read it. I had to try three times before I finally got through it. Immensely sad and dark ( depressing) but it finally grabbed me. I found it very thought provoking and haunting.
It's a grim subject matter, but McGregor handles it excellently. He writes a kind of prose that rolls off your tongue like poetry, and he disregards some basic grammar (like finishing a sentence with a period, quotation marks etc.) and I think he pulled it off, though some people might disagree with me and say it was a hard read.
