A modern day, alternate-reality drama about a hero who rises to become the King of his nation, based on the biblical story of King David. King Silas Benjamin rules the kingdom of Gilboa with steely determination unmatched by any rival. During a tense battle with the neighboring nation of Gath, David Shepherd, an idealistic young soldier from the countryside, heroically crosses over dangerous enemy lines and rescues a coveted prisoner of war, the son of the king.

I have a love-hate relationship with this series.

I love the alternate take on the Bible. Seeing a kingdom try to thrive in an American-ish society was interesting to see. The guy who played Jack (Sebastian Stan) was by far the best actor in the whole series and brought so much humanity to his role. The king (Ian McShane) was unforgettable because you hated his actions and his opinions, but also saw him as a benevolent father figure to the country other times.

Some things made me roll my eyes. The dialogue was stilted, many of the main actors were sub-par, and the drama didn't make sense sometimes. I honestly didn't understand the plan for this overthrow-the-king situation, but (spoiler!!!!) once it happened, I was on the edge of my seat.

Nevertheless, I was angry there was no second season when this first aired, and I'm still angry there's no second season! Fanfics, anyone?

If you love drama series and tend to cling to favorite characters, this is for you.

Such a shame this series was never finished, but half of a masterpiece is still a masterpiece. On the plus side you can finish the story yourself by picking up a Bible. This is a modern retelling of the Life of David (David Shepard in the show) and is well worth the time and with a cast that many major movies would be hard pressed to bring together.

I really enjoyed this series and think it was a shame that it only lasted one season. This is sort of a modernization/alternate reality show based on the Bible book Kings. Intriques in the palace, diplomacy with neighbouring kingdoms: plots worthy of Dynasty. Good acting, good storyline
