The origin stories plus some new material. Heavy on historical events from World War II, Cold War, McCarthy hearings, Haight Ashbury, etc. I prefer a more cohesive novel such as the later Wild Card series, and not an intro to each character and how they got there. But they have to start somewhere I guess and it's pretty good.
Easy quick read. Most of the stories were good. I think they could they traveled to present day a little quickly. They could have spent more time developing how the virus spread.
It's a fun read. There is a new take here on powers and the idea of superheroes. It's also a rewrite of history where you see how various notable events might have been different if people with extraordinary abilities existed. The idea is similar to the X-Men concept of mutants but different enough to be it's own thing. The style of the stories is also a lot more realistic and less over the top as well.
