A moving story that you will remember long after you’ve put down this read. Maybe one of my favorite books of this author.

I also didn't get this book from the library but read it recently and I loved it.

Although I didn't get this book from the library. I did get a chance to read it. I thought it was well worth the time to read and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. My only comment is that I thought the book kind of left the reader hanging at…

Thoroughly enjoyed - a very sweet story told through the eyes of a 7 year old boy.

There was a lot going on in this book. I don't have a lot to say about it except that the title seems very clever. I don't know if I've ever read a book with the narrator being only 7 years old before this one.

This is one of the BEST books I've read in a very long time, and I'm an avid reader. I couldn't put it down. The comparisons to Steinbeck are quite accurate, in my opinion (and I'm a huge Steinbeck fan too.) I'm slowly making my way…

I had this book on my book shelf for some time now and picked it up 3 times this spring and I finally sat down and read it. What a great book - I should have read it sooner. I would not have guessed that it was written by John Grisham as…

I also thought this story was much in the vein of J. Steinbeck. I could smell the dirt and feel the rain. Well done.

Grisham is probably our greatest living author; I am a major fan of his. This story is told from the point of view of a seven year old boy and very well told from that viewpoiint. This is probably my third favorite Grisham novel after…

Beautiful story about courage, perseverance, family ties, and love. Novel setting is in rural Arkansas in the 1950's. The book describes farming life and hardship in the cotton fields at that time. Luke Chandler grows up and develops a…

Don't expect court cases and legal drama. A totally different read - reminds me of Grapes of Wrath and the struggles encountered in that era. Good read.

An excellent family story told through the eyes of a 7-year old boy. The family's lives change abruptly with the arrival of migrant cotton pickers. It was well-written and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would not have thought this was a GRISHAM novel. I realy enjoyed it, particularly the great insights into the picking of cotton after slavery was abolished.

This is my favorite book of John Grisham, my favorite current American writer. The writing reminds me very much of Steinbeck in its depth of characterization and lyrical imagery.

I was both pleased and a little wary when this book came out, thinking could he pull off historical fiction? Well he absolutely nailed it. The depth of empathy he breathed into his characters was drawn from his personal experiences growing…

Enjoyed it, I found it read similiar to a J. Steinbeck, a poor but honest family who cannot get a break from the weather or the times.

I relived my farm childhood through this book. Great insight as to how a child would view the hard work and social interactions in the family and small town. Woven into it is a violent conflict with the itinerant farmworkers hired to…

Maybe it's just me but I have attempted to complete this books three times,... with no success. I know it's not a classic Grisham,... but I think I was hoping for something that would still grab my interest more that it did.
